Goodbye to McQueen

Lee Alexander McQueen born on March 16, 1969 was an inspiring, edgy English fashion designer. McQueen is most known for his retro and dynamic aparel and shoe wear. His fashions can be seen worn by fashionistas such as Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker and Penelope Cruz. Today, McQueen was found dead inside of his London home. Reports have concluded that it is believed that he comitted suicide. Whatever the case turns out to be, on behalf of BeautifulDirtyRich we send our condolences to the McQueen family.

Adele gets Messy

For some reason I've been listening to Adele a lot lately. I mean I've always loved her (Adele has to be one of my top 5 fav. female vocalists) but a few of her songs have really spoken to me recently and I am trying to understand why. However in the meantime, I'll just introduce her to all of you who still may be unfamiliar.

Besides her undeniable rich voice, her lyrics speak to me. They say you have to know a little about the artist to understand why they write some things- well by listening to Adele it seems as though she's a hopeless romantic who has regular problems in the galazy of love just like the rest of us.

Melt my heart to stone and First Love are my most favorite tracks of hers. Melt my heart to stone- because of its pure honesty. Many of us have experienced some form of unrequited love or an infactuation that you thought was "love" and never went further than you wanted.

Well that is what Adele is saying "You build me up and leave me there". First Love is quite amazing to me as well because of it's raw emotion. No one wants to let go of that first love because it will always stay with you rather its the love you wanted or not. The lines " Forgive me first love but im tired/I need to get away/to feel again...I need to taste a kiss from someone new...Im bored -To say the least, I lack desire" are breathtaking.

Sure the words are simple and anyone could have said it. Adele lets us know that its okay to move on- to let go and feel what its like to be free from a stagnant situation. So for all you indecisive and lovesick lovers- have a listen to Adele 19

Have you ever been in love so bad that it hurts? Now let me make myself clear. I don't mean hurt as in love sick or "loved somebody so much it makes you cry" jones' but I mean hurt as in physically, mentally or socially.

Isn't it crazy how love can redirect your actions and feelings towards other people or things? Why is love so powerful? So captivating? So undeniably dirty! From the moment you look into his or her eyes you are automatically trapped. Well then let me stop. Maybe it isn't love's fault after all- maybe its infactuation? lust? who d owe point the finger to?

Its interesting how women fall for the "bad guy" and men fall for the "ride or die". It seems as though we need someone tough to compliment us. Are we all insecure? weak? Dependent. Or are we in love with the idea of love so bad that we fall for the first thing we see.

Love is Messy.

Love is like that favorite song of yours that never gets old or your favorite movie that you're drawn to watch everytime even though its the 984,993,239th time you've seen it. Its the best memory and most voted past time. Its like you go outside to play and your mother tells you not to wear your good clothes but you do regardless and when you came back inside you try to hide all the dirt and grass stains. Love is Filthy. Filthy like an addiction. We hate it! Can't stand it wish it never existed! At the end of the day, is that all we really live for? To love someone and have someone love us back?

Do You Remember the Time?

So the old saying is that you must know where you're from to get where you are going. Well I must say that is quite true. This afternoon, my roommate and I decided to venture through the historical town of which we live, Pheobus. Pheobus is a small town located in Hampton,Virginia. In this homey town we found about 3 blocks of antique shops that spilled over with memories of the "good times". Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take pictures of some of the old trinkets I found but they were to die for.
..
Me being an avid reader and writer, I was pulled into an antique book shop- you know the ones that you think only exist on old TV shows. As soon as I opened the door, I smelled the scent of 200 year old novels. Pure heaven for any book lover. I wanted to buy the $50 original, leather back Alice in Wonderland but of course, I am a broke student at the end of the day. But I will be back. However, what I did buy was three pairs of gorgeous antique earrings and the 1964 hardback version of The Autobiography of Malcolm X for $2 at another shop. Almost better than thrifting. Or maybe its one in the same.
..
Anyway, while rummaging through the old records, volume 1 OEDs ( Oxford English Dictionary) , first made irons and porcelain, I also came across things that in my opinion weren't that old - VHS tapes and Cds. Then I thought wow these are actually going on 20 years old. The same age as me. It felt like yesterday when I was just a kid watching Aladdin and the King of Thieves and listening to Mariah Carey's Butterfly. My how time flies when you're just simply...living. Who needs a VHS when you have DVDs..well now blue rays. Who needs a CD when you have itunes ...well limewire. When I looked at the old little ladies that walked behind me in the shops, I thought wow this is what they remember. To me that stuff was new- things I've never seen before. It's great to have a reminder of the past and to know somewhere in some small town, that the past still exists.

it's a way of life.

today, i asked a friend if he still wanted to be a dentist and he said "yeah but more than anything RICH". at first i laughed at the response but let's just be honest. at the end of the day , we go to college , exhaust ourselves day in and day out , spend countless hours searching and applying for internships , reading and writing what seems to be endless amounts of pages to reach a certain socioeconomic status. we want to be wealthy. we want to be able to obtain everything that our heart desires and then some.

but for somebody like me , that isn't enough. i want to be beautiful.filthy.rich. now you may think that i'm talking about money but that's not it. i want to live my life in numerous business suits in assorted blacks, grays and beiges , subtle make-up during the week and red lipstick on the weekend. i want to work hard all day and get a little messy when i go home to my husband or boyfriend or whoever. i want to engage in endless , breathtaking coloring in and outside of the lines. i want to be able to paint a unique picture and lose control while doing so. and when i go out , i want to be able to say "i got it. everything's on me". beautiful, filthy and rich. that's the life i'm tryna live.

at least until i decide to start a family :)

First I would like to welcome every one of you to our online magazine/blog. We hope that whatever we post will inspire or intrigue you! It took me a while to think of what to actually say for our first entry, but I realized that I should look beyond myself and dedicate this first entry to the people of Haiti.

As I watch the television and read the newspaper, I can not help but be saddened by the striking images and visible sorrow that is written across the faces of the people of Port Au Prince, Haiti. I dontated what I could however, that was not enough. It made me feel proud that I was able to help in some sort of way, but on the otherhand it is heartwrenching to continue to see a lack of progress. Presently, I am watching the Haiti relief concert and I am harshly reminded of how important it is for everyone to help and donate to Haiti. There are a million of ways to donante via texting "yele" to 501501 which is Wyclef's fund and even skipping that trip to mediatakeout.com to go to hopeforhaitinow.org, also you can text GIVE to 50555.
